Photos: George Floyd remembered in Minneapolis
Photos from around Minneapolis show people joining together Thursday to honor George Floyd. His killing has sparked more than a week of peaceful protests demanding justice and widespread unrest in the Twin Cities and across the nation.
A crowd gathered at the site where Floyd died while in police custody, while others gathered to pay respects near North Central University, where friends and family held a private memorial service.
Floyd, 46, was killed while in police custody May 25. A bystander recorded video of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin pressing his knee against Floyd’s neck as Floyd lay on the ground pleading for air. Chauvin faces second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges in Floyd’s killing. The three other officers at the scene have also been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.
