50 years since the Rolling Stones were No. 1 with ‘Honky Tonk Women’

The Rolling Stones were No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 50 years ago with “Honky Tonk Women.”

The song was inspired by the Hank Williams song “Honky Tonk Blues,” and written while Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were staying at a horse ranch in Brazil. In the studio, the song evolved into a bluesy rocker, but the Stones later recorded another version, “Country Honk,” that’s more true to its country roots.
