The Minnesota Department of Health says it has located a woman who dropped off a pair of dead bats for rabies testing on Thursday and then left without leaving any contact information.
Health officials began searching for the woman after test results showed the bats she left at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Medical Center did have rabies.
The woman contacted the Health Department early Wednesday. After talking with her, investigators believe she is not at risk for contracting the fatal disease, the department said in a statement.
Anyone who's touched a bat or finds a bat in a room of a sleeping person should safely capture it and get it tested for rabies, the agency added. Bats can transmit the fatal disease through bites, and their teeth are small enough to barely leave a mark or feel it.
