In the new memoir "Afterglow," the poet Eileen Myles recounts life with Rosie, a dog Myles adopted in 1990. Myles uses their relationship to explore spirituality, mortality and love.
Myles spoke with MPR News host Kerri Miller about Rosie, the memoir, and the limits of time with a beloved companion.
"Dogs are such presentists," Myles told Miller. "I think that's why we love them so much, because they're not like, 'Wait a second, I have this thought. Wait, I've got to take this call, hold on.' You know, they're just absolutely there."
