President Donald Trump's proposed budget plan calls for major cuts to science funding.

The National Institutes of Health budget could take a nearly 20 percent hit. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration research office is could potentially see their funds cut in half.

The Department of Energy's Office of Science faces proposed cuts of around 17 percent cut. The Environmental Protection Agency's research and development office-is looking at a potential loss of 48 percent.

Is this proposal a cause for concern or is this simply a budgetary course correction?

MPR senior economics contributor Chris Farrell spoke with Andrea Thompson, senior science writer at Climate Central and Rush Holt, chief executive officer at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, about the potential impact of the president's budget blueprint.
