Singer/songwriter Amie Dibba will be at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis this Tuesday for "Acoustic Africa," a celebration of Africa's rich musical traditions.
This year, the show features two great singers and guitar players, Habib Koite of Mali and Vusi Mahlasela of South Africa. Dibba says both musicians are powerful storytellers who will leave the audience entranced, whatever their language differences may be. Acoustic Africa takes place at 7:30 p.m. April 5.
Moorhead community arts activist Jacinta Zens is a fan of painter Jenny Field. She describes Field's work as a mix between Vincent van Gogh and Gustav Klimt, featuring rich, expressive colors and semi-abstracted forms. Her new show at Kaddatz Gallery in Fergus Falls, "Cathartic Color," opens March 31 and runs through May 7.
Actor/director Craig Johnson was surprised to see New Epic Theater is staging repertory performances of Shakespeare's "Coriolanus" and Larry Kramer's "The Normal Heart," about the AIDS epidemic.
What could they possibly have in common? But Johnson says New Epic Theater's work always reveals surprising ideas and themes. Johnson says both shows tackle how we choose our leaders and how we deal publicly with things that are dear to us. The shows run on alternating nights through April 16 at the Lab Theater in Minneapolis.
