Former President Jimmy Carter announced over the weekend that his brain cancer is gone, thanks to treatments involving a new immunotherapy drug. The drug, called Keytruda, helps the body marshal its own defenses against cancer cells.
The drug is extremely expensive, with costs running in the tens of thousands of dollars per month, raising questions about how many people who need such treatment will be able to have it.
Dr. Jon Hallberg joined MPR News' Tom Crann to discuss the apparent success of Carter's treatment and the outlook for other cancer patients.
