What happens when the feds investigate a police shooting?

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges asked the U.S. Department of Justice for a federal civil rights investigation into the shooting of Jamar Clark during an altercation with police.

On Monday MPR News host Kerri Miller asked two former Justice Department officials what a federal investigation entails, how long it takes and what potential outcomes might be.

Miller spoke with Robert Driscoll, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Chief of Staff in the Civil Rights Division and Tom Heffelfinger, a former U.S. Attorney for Minnesota.
