Moorhead-based American Crystal Sugar is building a $40 million sugar storage facility near Chicago.
American Crystal Sugar said the project will create the largest standalone sugar storage facility in the country. It will hold about 66,000 tons of sugar.
American Crystal Sugar president David Berg said the Chicago location will enhance service to customers and allow for more efficient distribution of sugar to food manufacturers.
The project is financed by American Crystal and will be operated by United Sugars, the company's marketing arm.
The new sugar storage and distribution center will begin operations late next year.
