Metro Transit is offering free Internet connections aboard dozens of buses in a new test around the Twin Cities.
The free Wi-Fi service will be available on nearly 60 express coaches and 10 local buses on a variety of routes. Riders will see signage on buses to tell them if there is Wi-Fi on board.
"What we're hearing from riders is that they want access to Wi-Fi, so we're going to try it out and make it happen," said Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla. The agency will track the reliability and use of the service during the pilot program, he added.
Metro Transit has featured Wi-Fi on Northstar Commuter Rail trains since 2013. Agency officials think the service could boost ridership to help pay for the service. The service isn't available now on light rail lines.
