A 12-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 35E closed at 11 a.m. Friday, the first in a wave of weekend road and lane closures.
Crews are replacing pipe under the interstate this weekend and the road is closed from the Interstate 35 split at Columbus in Anoka County down to County Road E in Vadnais Heights.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the road should reopen by 2 p.m. Sunday for southbound traffic back into the Twin Cities.
Highway 100 is also closing again this weekend, starting at 10 p.m. tonight. The road will be closed from Interstate 394 to Minnesota Highway 62 through Monday morning.
Eastbound Minnesota Highway 5 in Eden Prairie is also closing this weekend. Also known as West 78th Street, the road from County Road 4 to the Venture Lane-Fuller Road intersection will close from 10 p.m. tonight through Monday morning.
One major project is wrapping up. The Snelling Avenue bridge over Interstate 94 in St. Paul is scheduled to reopen by midnight tonight — a week ahead of schedule.
