The closing of Interstate 35W headlines this weekend's list of Twin Cities driving hassles.
Both directions of I-35W in the northern suburbs between Minnesota Highway 36 and Interstate 694 will close from 10 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation's weekend construction map. Lane restrictions will start at 7 p.m.
Ramps from County Road E2, County Road D and County Road C to southbound Interstate 35W will remain open to local traffic through New Brighton and Roseville. On the northbound side, local access through Roseville, New Brighton and Arden Hills will be open to County Road E2.
I-35W through traffic is being detoured east to Snelling Avenue via Highway 36 and I-694. Drivers should expect delays. Crews are demolishing the County Road F bridge over the freeway.
In the west metro, Highway 100 in St. Louis Park and Edina is closing again for construction overnight. Work is set to start at 10 p.m. tonight and run through 5 a.m. Saturday. MnDOT is rebuilding two bridges, adding an auxiliary lane and putting up noise walls along the 1.6 mile stretch, one of the Twin Cities most heavily traveled stretches of highway.
Also this weekend, Hennepin County says that the Franklin Avenue bridge will be reduced to one lane in both directions from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday. Flaggers will guide traffic in both directions, as trucks deliver concrete to a waiting barge for work on the piers in the Mississippi River.
