The Daily Digest: New venue, same budget impasse

Here's what's happening in Minnesota and in Washington.

Minnesota:

Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders met yesterday evening to discuss the budget, but there was no breakthrough.

In fact, according to MPR's Tom Scheck, they couldn't even agree when last night's negotiations would end.

The meeting happened at the Governor's residence. Legislative leaders had been meeting at the Capitol sans Dayton. (MPR News)

DFL Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk said he'll back off a proposed gas tax increase if House Republicans back off their tax cut plan. (MPR News)

Washington:

President Barack Obama angered environmentalists Monday after giving Shell conditional approval to drill in the Arctic. (The New York Times)

Watch the U.S. Senate vote to begin debate on a controversial trade bill today. (USA Today)

"Fast-track" approval is needed to conclude multilateral trade deal with 11 Asian countries. Sen. Al Franken said in a press release that worker protections in the bill aren't strong enough.
