Detroit Lakes City Council members have voted to approve a controversial $11.3 million development over the objections of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The state agency has threatened a lawsuit over the combined hotel, condominium and restaurant project, saying it falls short of measures needed to protect the city's namesake lake from increased runoff. The DNR also says there's not enough green space included in the project.
The agency said it's discussing its next step.
Mayor Matt Brenk said Wednesday he would not comment on possible litigation. The council voted 6-2 to back the project.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer.
