This week, the Art Hounds take in portraits of blues musicians, a performance of Scheherazade by the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and a play about art in the days of cavemen.
Theater maker Victoria Pyan called us while on vacation in Hawaii because she's so enthusiastic about Nimbus Theatre's production "In the Age of Paint and Bone." The show questions the nature of art, and whether it can exist without language. The narrative flips between tours of cave art, the discovery of the caves, and the days of the cavemen themselves. "In the Age of Paint and Bone" runs through Sunday at Nimbus Theatre in Minneapolis.
Painter Joe Gianetti is a big admirer of Marc Norberg's photographs, particularly his series of portraits of famous blues musicians. Now you can check them out — up close — at the Ice Box Gallery. Gianetti says he's impressed by how intimate the portraits are, and how they really reflect the personalities and music of the subjects. "Cold Snap Blues" is up through April 25.
Minnesota Chorale Executive Director Bob Peskin recommends you check out this Saturday's Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra concert. The concert features a line-up of music inspired by folk tales, including Rimsky Korsakov's "Scheherazade." The music will be accompanied by original choreography created and performed by Minnesota Ballet.
