Fargo's police chief resigned Monday after an investigation into department morale.
The Fargo city commission set up a panel to investigate Chief Keith Ternes after complaints about unfair discipline and low morale in the department.
The city will pay Ternes, who has been chief for 8 years, until July. "It's almost like having a coach — and you might switch your coaches because you don't like the direction the team is taking right now," said Fargo Deputy Mayor Tim Mahoney, who said the department is ready for new leadership.
Deputy Police Chief Dave Todd will lead the department on an interim basis.
