War brides from across the country are uniting in St. Paul this week.

The women, who married American servicemen who served abroad during World War II, are in town for the World War II War Brides Association's annual meeting.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Duluth, Minn., resident Irene Maio, 89, who is attending this year's gathering. Maio moved to Minnesota from London after marrying her husband in 1945.

A new book out this week tells the stories of four war brides like Irene. The Merriam Park Library will be hosting an author talk and signing Saturday at 2 p.m.
