St. Paul about to begin towing cars that violate parking ban

The city of St. Paul has been holding off on towing cars that violate the city's even-side parking ban. But that will come to an end as soon as today, when trucks start hauling violators away.

The city has been giving warnings and tickets, but enforcement is about to get serious, says Kari Spreeman, spokeswoman for St. Paul public works.

"We're trying to ease into it," she said. "This is the first time the city has ever had to do a citywide parking ban. So we know it's a new thing for residents."

A winter parking ticket will cost $56, and it will cost car owners an additional $219 to get their car out of the impound lot. The cost goes up $15 per day for storage fees.
