The Minnesota Action Network, an outgrowth of Norm Coleman's American Action Network, has formed a political fund that will raise and spend cash on state elections.
In theory, the fund can put its resources into defending the yet-to-be-named Republican gubernatorial candidate. It can also spend the cash on state legislative candidates.
But MN Action Network CEO Laura Brod didn't respond to questions about how the money will be used.
"We filed an IE PAC to ensure we are able to weigh in on the issues before and during the election through a variety of mechanisms and ensure we have the best chance to be able to support and further ideas related to a a smarter and more limited government, wasteful spending, and economic prosperity for Minnesota," wrote Brod in an email.
The Minnesota Action Network has ties to former Republican Sen. Norm Coleman's American Action Network, a right of center organization that advocates for smaller government, among other things.
During the 2012 election, the American Action Network spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads in Minnesota, including spots aimed at helping former Republican 8th District Rep. Chip Cravaack.
The Minnesota Action Network was officially formed in March 2013. Legally speaking, its a separate organization from the American Action Network, though both are chaired by Coleman.
