A St. Paul man is being held at the Ramsey County jail after being shot by police late Sunday night.
Police say they were trying to arrest a 53-year-old man for domestic assault and outstanding warrants on the city's East Side about 10:15 p.m. Officers say he tried to drive away, and drove toward an officer who was approaching the scene on foot.
A statement from the St. Paul police department says the officer drew his gun, fired and hit the man. Police say he drove about a mile further before crashing his vehicle on the 900 block of Reaney Avenue. The suspect got out of the car and fled, but was tracked down by police.
He was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment, and later booked into the county jail. Police say no officers were injured, and the officer that fired at the suspect is on a standard administrative leave. They have not identified him.
