A police chase in Monticello ended with a father and his 1-year-old son hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police say the driver that hit them was fleeing the scene of an armed robbery in Big Lake on Monday. Police pursued a suspect SUV into the city of Monticello. The driver turned down the wrong way of Broadway Street into oncoming traffic and smashed into the other car.
State Patrol spokesman Eric Roeske said the fleeing car was driven by a 47-year-old Monticello man.
The officers that were in pursuit were not pursuing the vehicle in the wrong direction, but at that point, the fleeing vehicle continued through the intersection and struck the other vehicle broadside.
The other driver and his son were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. The suspect in the robbery was arrested and booked on charges of fleeing and criminal vehicular operation.
