It's been two years since a tornado hit the north side of Minneapolis, killing two people and causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure.

The tornado hit a neighborhood already struggling from the mortgage crisis, economic recession and crime. But the disaster's aftermath rallied volunteer and financial support from around the region, and inspired community leaders in the neighborhood to mobilize.

On Wednesday, the neighborhood will gather again to recognize the efforts of the community to recover from the 2011 disaster. Louis King, president and CEO of Summit Academy also chairs the Northside Community Response Team, which was formed after the tornado and is hosting today's event. He speaks with MPR News.
