North Dakota's boom times seem to be here to stay -- at least for a while. A new government analysis finds the Williston basin of North Dakota holds more than 7.4 billion barrels of undiscovered oil that can be recovered.
That's more than twice as much oil as the U.S. Geological Survey estimated just five years ago. It's an area that's experienced rapid development in the past several years, and this news could fuel that growth.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with David Flynn an economist at the University of North Dakota about what the new estimate could mean for the state.
