The Pioneer Press's Ray Richardson says that NBA Commissioner David Stern weighed in on the Target Center renovation during a stop in Minneapolis today. It's yet another effort to sweeten the pot on the back and forth plans for an update for the downtown arena.

Stern is taking a bit of a victory lap: he's due to retire next February, to be replaced by deputy Adam Silver. He said in a press conference at the Timberwolves home that the league would consider returning to Minneapolis for its All-Star Weekend. The game was held in Minneapolis in 1994.

It wasn't a particularly memorable game -- the Timberwolves were spectators. Except, of course, for future bad-boy Isiah "J.R." Rider, who won that year's Slam Dunk Contest, with what Charles Barkley said "might be the best dunk I've ever seen."

I still think he did it better in '93.
