Strib: Re-developer may seek tax subsidy for East Downtown land

Eric Roper says Ryan and Wells Fargo are still kicking the tires of the newspaper's property -- presumably the chunk west of Park Avenue that isn't being eyed for a public stadium plaza, with an eye toward commercial redevelopment. And, as is often the case in the Twin Cities downtowns, the developers may be looking for a handout from City Hall. Roper says they want as much as $35 million in tax increment financing, that's the property tax increment that would be paid on the improved and presumably more valuable property. The Strib says its potential buyers may look at office space and up to 460 apartments.
