First person: One family's recovery

North Minneapolis tornado anniversary
Steve and Dana Gronau, and their daughter Kyla, were home when a tornado struck their north Minneapolis neighborhood nearly a year ago. The family's house, near the corner of 33rd Street and Irving Avenue N., still needs some repair work as of Thursday, May 10, 2012.

MPR's Tom Crann talks with Dana Gronau, whose home was damaged in last May's tornado.

Dana and her husband Steve's house is a classic, sturdy four-square from the 1920s on the corner of 33rd and Irving — right in the path of the storm.

The Gronaus and their teenage daughter, Kyla, were in the house the afternoon the tornado hit. No one was injured, and their house fared better than one that was demolished across the street. That one has since been rebuilt, but for the Gronaus the work continues.
