Traffic on a busy stretch of Highway 55 in south Minneapolis is being detoured while workers repair a bridge running over Hiawatha Avenue.
A pair of cables failed on the Martin Sabo bike and pedestrian bridge when a cable support broke Sunday evening.
The closing of the bridge also forced the suspension of
Light rail service where trains run along Hiawatha under the bridge was suspended. The bridge opened in 2007 to link the Midtown Greenway to the Mississippi River.
