The United Nations says Somalia is on the brink of famine. The U.N. announced yesterday it's seen a dramatic increase in Somali refugees arriving at camps in neighboring Kenya. As many as 20,000 have crossed the border in just the last two weeks.
In all, more than 10 million people in the Horn of Africa are living in near-famine conditions because of the worst drought in 60 years.
Minnesota has the largest Somali-American population in the US.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Valerie Amos, under secretary general in the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, about the situation.
