Minnesota's corn harvest is speeding ahead thanks to the third dry week in a row.
In its weekly crop weather report for Minnesota, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Monday that all of last week was suitable for fieldwork, given the lack of measurable rain. It was the first time this year that all seven days were suitable for fieldwork statewide.
As of Sunday, Minnesota farmers had nearly completed their soybean, sugarbeet, and potato harvests.
The corn crop was 47 percent harvested - a 30-point gain from a week earlier.
And the report says the dry weather has meant another bonus for corn producers - the lack of rain is allowing corn to fully dry down in the fields, minimizing the need for burning expensive fuel to dry it.
