A hearing was held this morning in Kigali, Rwanda for Twin Cities law professor Peter Erlinder. Erlinder has been imprisoned in Rwanda since late May.
He's charged with denying the 1994 Rwandan genocide that killed more than 800,000 people. In a 2005 interview, Erlinder told MPR News he believed Rwanda's President Paul Kagame, who is commonly viewed as a hero who ended the massacre, was in part responsible for starting it. He said Kagame's position of power allowed him to control the genocide narrative.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Hereward Holland, who's been covering the Erlinder story on the ground in Kigali for Reuters.
