President Barack Obama has mobilized his campaign organization in Minnesota and other states to help build support for health care legislation.
Obama's "Organizing for America" group is hosting health care events throughout the country this week, including a picnic Wednesday in Minneapolis.
State DFL leaders are also helping spread the message. In a conference call with reporters Tuesday, Minnesota DFL Associate Chair Donna Cassutt said rising costs in health care and shrinking levels of coverage are unacceptable.
"Minnesotans deserve far, far more than to have to beg and borrow and settle for an inadequate health care coverage at best," Cassutt said. "And all Americans deserve more than the current broken system. And fortunately the time has finally come to do something about it, and President Obama is leading the way on that."
Cassutt said the Obama-led offensive does not mean the health care bill is in trouble.
