Rich Cohen tells the story of how his branch of the family was disingerited from the "Sweet and Low" fortune. He says the story allowed him to "see the universe in a single grain of artifical sweetner."

The family, or more specifically Cohen's grandmother disinherited his branch of the family.
Cohen says his parents had always told him not to expect anything from the family and so the disinheritance didn't bother him much He told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr that changed when he decided to write a book about the story. He called the book "Sweet and Low."
