MPR News host Tom Weber talks with Representative Tim Miller, R-Prinsburg, sponsor of a bill in the state House that proposes a re-opening of the prison in Appleton, and with Justin Terrell of TakeAction Minnesota, about the possibility of the state leasing the Swift county prison in an effort to ease prison overcrowding. The conversation includes discussion of much-needed rural jobs as well as community groups' concerns about the overwhelming incarceration of persons of color.
The National Native American Ten Minute Play Festival gets underway this week at the Bedlam Lowertown in St. Paul. Tom Weber talked with Rhiana Yazzie, artistic director of the New Native Theater, which is putting on the festival.
Farm income takes a hit
Minnesota farm income dropped to a 20-year low in 2015, according to an analysis released last week by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and the University of Minnesota Extension. Tom Weber talked with Kent Thiesse, a farm management analyst at MinnStar Bank in Lake Crystal.
