Good afternoon! Big news from the Trump campaign. After weeks of speculation, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump tweeted Friday morning that he has chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate.Trump had planned to hold a press conference Friday morning, but he canceled that after a deadly attack in France. Good afternoon! Expect a breezy evening, with a good chance of drizzle. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 60s. Mourners on Thursday afternoon paid their last respects to Philando Castile, who was shot and killed by a St. Anthony police officer during a traffic stop last week. Pallbearers carried the casket out at the end of the service as members of the crowd called out, "United for Philando." Good afternoon! Tonight is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of light rain early on. In the Twin Cities area highs are in the 80s, lows in the 70s. Next week still looks ripe for the biggest heat wave of summer. NOAA's Global Forecast System model suggests the potential for five days in a row near or above 90 degrees next week. Protests ended in arrests near Minneapolis today. Authorities reopened traffic on southbound I-35W Wednesday at about 9:15 a.m. after protesters lined up across the interstate near downtown to protest police shootings. The Minnesota State Patrol arrested 41 protesters after about an hour on the freeway. Troopers towed away four cars that had initially blocked traffic. More | Forecast
Good morning! Partly cloudy this morning with scattered storms in southern Minnesota. Partly sunny by the afternoon. Highs in the 60s to the north and 80s in the south. After the last few weeks (months? years?) we could all use a hug. And that's exactly what happened in Dallas yesterday. NPR reporter Wade Goodwyn described what he said could have been a tense moment when a group of Black Lives Matters protesters neared the same intersection where a group of mostly-white counter protesters were staged. Good afternoon! Scattered showers are possible over northwestern Minnesota later today. Highs will be cooler than yesterday over southern Minnesota with predicted highs in the 80s and lows in the 70s. In St. Paul today the attorney for Philando Castile's family announced they will pursue a civil lawsuit and press for change at the Legislature in the way police are vetted and trained. "My son was a humanitarian. He was a pillar in this community. He didn't deserve to die like that," Valerie Castile told reporters. Good afternoon. Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said today he hasn't decided if he'll seek a grand jury in the fatal police shooting of Philando Castile. Once the BCA finishes its investigation, the case will go to Choi for a decision on whether to convene a grand jury to review the case for possible charges, or make the decision within his department. | Full story
Snipers shot and killed five Dallas law enforcement officers and injured another six at the end of a rally in downtown Dallas, where hundreds were protesting police shootings that happened in other parts of the country earlier this week. Dallas Police Chief David Brown described what he believes is a coordinated attack that intentionally targeted police officers, with at least four people -- three men and one woman -- involved. Good afternoon. The man shot and killed Wednesday by police during a Falcon Heights traffic stop worked in St. Paul public schools and was remembered warmly by colleagues who say they're grieving his death. Philando Castile spent much of his adult life as a cafeteria aide in St. Paul Public Schools. Earlier today, FBI Director James Comey says he expects his agency to be involved with the case. | More
