Julian Bond narrates MPR documentary: 'O Freedom Over Me'
Life-long civil rights activist Julian Bond died in August at the age of 75. He narrated a Minnesota Public Radio documentary about one of the events in which he was a major participant, the 1964 Freedom Summer. The documentary is called "O Freedom Over Me."

On December 29, 1890, a US Cavalry regiment killed 250 innocent Lakota men, women and children in South Dakota in what became known as the Wounded Knee Massacre. A Christmas special, including Truman Capote reading "A Christmas Memory," a short Christmas story from Garrison Keillor, and longtime MPR reporter Dan Olson reading the 1897 New York Sun editorial, "Yes, Virginia, There IS a Santa Claus."
On Christmas Eve in 1906, shipboard technicians listening for Morse code heard music. It's believed to be the first successful radio transmission of music and voice. Music has been the dominant sound on the radio ever since, and an engine for cultural and political change in America. Media role in the Black Lives Matter protests
The local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists convened a discussion focused on the police shooting in north Minneapolis. They explore the community response to it, the media coverage of these events, and coverage of the black community in general. Many of them said news and information is controlled by the white power structure, and they want it dismantled.
