Minnesota’s COVID-19 case total climbed by nearly 2,000 over the weekend, with state health officials reporting 1,032 more confirmed cases on Saturday and 934 on Sunday — both among the highest single-day totals on record in the state. The number of new cases reported each day has been trending upward in the past couple weeks after falling earlier in the month. The percentage of tests coming back positive has also been trending up. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says the city is prepared to respond if looting were to flare up. Police, state troopers, and soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard were on patrol during an overnight curfew in the Twin Cities, after looting and vandalism hit businesses along Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis on Wednesday night. At least four businesses were set on fire and dozens were damaged Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. The unrest erupted after what authorities describe as misinformation about the suicide of a homicide suspect in downtown Minneapolis. The city's curfew will run from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday.
