A record-hot summer in California during 2024, combined with near-record dryness in Southern California late in the year, helped set the stage for the catastrophic wildfires that have devastated the region over the past week.
And last Friday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported 2024 was the Earth’s hottest year in recorded history. The previous hottest year was 2023.
