State lawmakers weigh major overhaul for government office building near Capitol

Minnesota lawmakers are considering a major overhaul for the 90-year-old State Office Building in St. Paul. The venerable old building is home to House members’ offices and many hearing rooms, but lawmakers say it’s in disrepair, and in need of major security and systems updates.

The House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee met about the building on Monday and is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to approve a major renovation. But it’s not yet clear how much that renovation might cost. For more, MPR News host Cathy Wurzer talked with outgoing House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler (DFL-Golden Valley).
