College-educated moms slow to return to workforce

According to new research, college-educated moms have been slow to return to work and — in some cases — are dropping out of the workforce altogether.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused families across the country a lot of hardship and disruption as childcare and school hours have been reduced and eliminated. That's had an impact on the workforce — particularly for mothers.

According to new research by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, college-educated moms have been slow to return to work and — in some cases — are dropping out of the workforce altogether.

Misty Heggeness, principal economist and senior adviser for evaluations and experiments at the Census Bureau and co-author of the report, joined host Cathy Wurzer to talk about the reasons why and the distribution of labor within families.
