Minneapolis voters took to the polls Tuesday in an election that largely focused on public safety and determining the political balance of the city council.
With elections results in, seven new members are set to join the 13-member council, now the most diverse in the city’s history.
Incumbent Andrea Jenkins, who became the first openly transgender Black woman elected to public office in 2017, was re-elected with more than 80 percent of the vote in her ward. She represents Ward 8 in south central Minneapolis, which includes George Floyd Square.
Jenkins joined host Cathy Wurzer to talk about the public safety amendment and more.
