A former Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman after she called 911 in 2017 was resentenced on Thursday to nearly five years in prison. A Hennepin County judge imposed the maximum sentence allowed for second-degree manslaughter.
Noor, 36, was initially convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the killing of Justine Ruszczyk, which carries a 12 ½ year sentence. But last month, the Minnesota Supreme Court overturned the murder conviction.
With time already served, Noor is expected to be released from prison on June 27, 2022.
MPR News’ Race, Class, and Communities editor, Brandt Williams, joined Minnesota Now with host Cathy Wurzer to detail the new sentence handed down by Judge Kathryn Quaintance.
