What we know about the coronavirus as the country considers reopening

Public health officials say widespread testing and contact tracing would make it possible to curtail social distancing in certain parts of the country. But accessibility of testing is still behind, even with increased efforts to make and distribute supplies.

While research efforts continue, new information and new questions come up every day about COVID-19 and the virus that causes it. For our latest check-in on the science of the novel coronavirus, Kerri Miller talked with two doctors about what they’re watching during the pandemic.

  • Dr. Angela Hewlett is the medical director of the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and associate medical director of Infection Control and Epidemiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

  • Dr. Preeti Malani is chief health officer at the University of Michigan. She is also a professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases.
