Since early in her career, Brandi Carlile has broken Americana stereotypes.

She's an openly gay woman, with strong progressive politics. Her outspokenness has won her fans all over the country, including a dedicated fan base here in Minnesota.

That's probably what promoters were counting on when they booked her for three nights this week.

The back-to-back-to-back shows will mark the grand opening of a new theater space — The Fillmore — in downtown Minneapolis.

Carlile will perform Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
