35 years since Foreigner was No. 1 with ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’

Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is" topped the Billboard pop chart 35 years ago this week.

Guitarist Mick Jones later told Songfacts that he wrote the song about the search for love that could last, after going through a series of relationships that eventually ended. He says when he played the song for Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, he looked over midway through and saw the music mogul was crying – and that by the end of the song, they were both in tears.
