Severe storms are rolling through central Minnesota including the Twin Cities

It’ll be a pleasant day for most of central Minnesota with shower chances south and northwest. More storms are possible Thursday night and Friday night ahead of a hot weekend.

Shower, thunder chances before and after a hot weekend 

Wednesday will be fairly pleasant for most of central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, sandwiched between shower chances in southern Minnesota and northwest parts of the state. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s for most of the state Wednesday afternoon. 

As mentioned, there will be some ongoing showers clipping southeastern Minnesota Wednesday morning with more showers, thunder moving in west to east this afternoon. 

Some storms will also pop up in northwestern Minnesota later in the day and into the evening hours. The chance is more isolated in central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities Wednesday. 

There will be more chances of storms Thursday night and Friday night as humid air returns to the region once again. 

A few upper-level disturbances, combined with the surge of heat and moisture, will make timing out the storm chances difficult more than 24 to 36 hours in advance, but it’s likely many of us will get wet again before a hot weekend moves in. 

There’s also a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe storms Thursday night and a slight risk Friday night (level 2 of 5). 

Dew points really surge Friday into the weekend. Get ready for some tropical Gulf of Mexico air as dew points reach the low to mid 70s. We haven’t really had that combination of high dew points and 90s yet this year. 

Highs Saturday and Sunday look to be in the 90s for southern Minnesota combined with dew points in the 70s.

The combination of heat and humidity means there may be some heat advisories this weekend and potentially some triple-digit heat index values in southern Minnesota, especially Saturday. 

A cold front will move in late Monday touching off more storms, possibly strong ones, followed by cooler air.
