It’ll be hot, windy and hazy Monday. Highs will be near 90 degrees with storms developing west ahead of a cool front this afternoon followed by cooler air.

Hot start to the week; storms developing west 

It’s going to be a hot, windy, and hazy one across southern Minnesota Monday. We’ll see partly cloudy skies with smoke-filtered sunshine through high clouds. Highs will be near 90 degrees or warmer in southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. 

We also have smoke to contend with. Air quality alerts remain in effect for all of Minnesota through 6 p.m. Monday. Check the latest air quality conditions, alerts and forecasts here:

Thunderstorms will develop my midafternoon in west-central Minnesota ahead of a cool front moving across western Minnesota. 

Those showers and thunderstorms will then track east Monday evening into the overnight with lingering showers into Tuesday for much of central and southern Minnesota. The Twin Cities area can expect showers and storms by the 7-10 p.m. time frame. 

Storms that develop initially could be severe Monday afternoon and evening across west-central and southwestern Minnesota. The storms are generally expected to be weaker as they reach eastern and southeast Minnesota Monday night. 

A slight risk (level 2 of 5) is forecast for western and southwest Minnesota Monday into Monday night.

It will be considerably cooler behind the cool front Tuesday and for the remainder of the week. Clouds and some showers will linger Tuesday morning for most of eastern and southern Minnesota while sunshine will break out west. 

Sunshine returns Wednesday with generally brighter conditions the rest of the week into the weekend with highs mostly in the 70s across the state. 

We could see some spotty or isolated rain chances for the end of the week and weekend.
