Storms start to move out of Minnesota, continue for western Wisconsin

A cloudy and noticeably cooler Saturday is on tap for the region, with a lingering chance of showers mainly across northern areas. Clearing skies and lighter winds Saturday night will allow temperatures to dip, raising the risk of frost.

Our previous weather system has moved into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but it's leaving behind lingering cloud cover and cooler temperatures. In central and northern Minnesota, temperatures will struggle to reach the 50s, remaining in the 40s. Meanwhile, the Twin Cities and areas to the south can expect highs in the low to mid-50s.

Winds will be lighter than yesterday, coming from the northwest at 5-15 mph, with gusts reaching into the 20s. Some lingering drizzle and light rain showers are possible in the Northland, with the chance of a few snowflakes mixing in.

The threat of frost returns to the forecast, with a frost advisory and freeze watch in effect for different areas of the state. A frost advisory is in effect for parts of central and southwestern Minnesota until 9 a.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, a freeze watch is in effect for North Lake and Cook counties in northeastern Minnesota through Sunday morning.

Low temperatures will drop into the lower to mid-30s, with the metro area around 40. Frost is likely to develop at these temperatures.

Clouds will scatter on Sunday, allowing temperatures to warm into the upper 50s to low 60s across the state. However, this will still be below the average high of around 70 degrees.

Cooler temperatures will linger into the start of the workweek, with more seasonal highs in the 70s returning by Thursday.

Our next chance of rain arrives late Monday into Tuesday as a low-pressure system moves to the south. At this time, it appears that most of the rainfall will be confined to southern and central Minnesota.
