Storms start to move out of Minnesota, continue for western Wisconsin

It’ll be windy and much cooler with scattered bands of occasional rain showers. Below-normal temperatures persist into the weekend, but we should dry out Saturday and Sunday. 

Windy, cooler and below normal temperatures 

The system responsible for Thursday’s severe storms is still spinning across northern Minnesota Friday morning. With fast-moving bands of rain wrapping around the low center, it looks like a hurricane on land. 

We’ll see those wrap around rain showers occasionally, on and off through the day Friday. We’ll also have lots of clouds hanging on. Some sprinkles and even snow showers persist north Saturday. 

In addition to the occasional rain, it’ll continue to be very windy across central and southern Minnesota, but considerably lighter in northeastern Minnesota ahead of the surface low tracking east. Saturday will remain blustery, although wind speeds will ease up a bit. 

A wind advisory is in effect for portions of southwestern and western Minnesota Friday through 7 p.m. due to the high winds. Gusts could be as high as 50 mph in the advisory area.

Friday’s high temperatures will be a good 20 degrees cooler for most with highs in the 50s and 60s — below normal by several degrees for the date. 

It’ll be a colder overnight, especially in northwestern Minnesota with temperatures dropping into the 30s there after being in the 90s to near 100 degrees much of the earlier part of this week!

The weekend will remain cooler than normal with highs Saturday in the 50s for much of the state and only 40s north. 

That will set us up for a cold night Saturday night. Northern Minnesota could see frost in places after being in the 90s to start this wacky week. 

Both weekend days should be mainly dry except for a few spotty sprinkles and even snow flakes in northern Minnesota. Sunday will yield more sunshine but temperatures will remain below normal into next week with another chance at rain Tuesday. 

More seasonable temperatures, in the 70s and 60s return for later next week.
