Storms start to move out of Minnesota, continue for western Wisconsin

A tornado watch has been issued until 8 p.m. in Minnesota, including the Twin Cities and a large swath of the middle of the state and western Wisconsin, as conditions remain favorable for the development of strong storms. These storms could produce damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for an isolated tornado.

Severe weather, tornado watch impacts swath of Minnesota

A tornado watch has been issued for central Minnesota including the metro area until 8 p.m. 

The High-Resolution Rapid Refresh model shows thunderstorms beginning to develop just east of the Twin Cities metro area between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday. Early storms will form as smaller, more discrete cells could quickly strengthen and become severe.

As the afternoon continues, these storms are expected to grow and organize into a more defined line as they push into western Wisconsin. 

The Storm Prediction Center highlights a threat for large hail, strong winds and tornadoes Thursday afternoon and evening.

An enhanced risk (level 3 of 5) covers the eastern metro and Wisconsin, while a slight risk (level 2 of 5) extends across much of central Minnesota, including the southeastern portions.
