Milder weekend ahead; thunderstorm possible Sunday morning

You may feel a little spring in your step this weekend. Temperatures in the 60s to the low 70s will grace southern Minnesota. Friday brings temperatures in the 50s for much of Minnesota.

The forecast maps suggest a few more clouds will linger through Sunday so we’ll have to take our sunny peeks when we get them. Saturday’s south breezes between 15 and 25 mph will boost temperatures well into the 60s across much of Minnesota.

Sunday brings the mildest day of the weekend. Highs will reach the 70s from around the Twin Cities to points south and west. Check out the map at the top of this post.

Sunday brings a cool front to Minnesota. We may see a few scattered showers and a thunderstorm bubble up especially Sunday morning.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model shows rain chances Sunday morning near the Twin Cities. Also note the rain across northern Minnesota Sunday, that transitions to wet snow by Monday morning!

Next week starts on cooler notes once again. But milder temperatures in the 60s to possible 70s look likely again by late next week.

Drought gone from Twin Cities

This week’s drought conditions update for Minnesota reflects the abundant moisture from our series of storms over the past few weeks. Drought is gone from the Twin Cities area and from most of south-central Minnesota:

Overall drought area in Minnesota fell to 47 percent from 63 percent a week ago. The only area of severe drought in Minnesota remains surrounding the Mississippi headwaters region in north-central Minnesota.
